21 for collection during the week of November 22-26.
Want
to help Key School? You can purchase $20 or $25 denomination grocery
certificates treated the same as cash at any Safeway, Giant or
Fresh Fields. Key earns 5% of face values. This year-round fund-raiser
netted close to $7,000 last year. Call Marybeth or Richard Maeder
at 342-1626 to arrange.
You
can now renew up to five library books by phone. For books checked
out from the Palisades branch, call 727-1369 with the bar codes
for your library card and the books. This service can’t be used
for reserve books, books on tape, new fiction or CDs.
A
reminder to all seniors who use Metro Senior Citizen ID Cards:
all cards issued prior to 1999 will expire on December 31. Apply
now at our branch library for the new copper-colored cards which
will be valid for five years.
The
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department offers free
home safety inspections to owners or renters. Call its information
office at 673-3331 to schedule. Areas covered are: smoke detectors,
fire extinguishers, space heaters, appliance, furnace, and water
heater safety, electrical wiring and storage hazards, and proposed
emergency exits. The inspection results do not require the resident
to make changes.
Worried
or just curious about possible millennium bugs? Check out the
District’s Year 2000 website at www.y2K.dcgov.org.
It has preparation status for all DC entities and useful links
to other sites — Pepco, for example.
