AGENDA:
CODE RED!
The Vanishing
Urban Environment of the Palisades
June,
2000 -- The May newsletter discussed some of the critical elements of
maintaining the Environmental Quality of Life (EQL) in the Palisades neighborhood.
Increased economic development, population density, construction, and
infrastructure enhancements might be desirable on one hand but be environmental
stressors, reducing our bio-diversity, on the other.
Is the EQL of the Palisades going in the right direction? Has it gone
the other way?
Come to the PCA general meeting on Tuesday, June 6 at 8 pm at the Palisades
Rec Center to address this. Leading government decision-makers have been
invited to engage in an environmental dialog with us.
Our partner Association, the Hillcrest Community Civic Association, will
send representatives. We're expecting Ward 3 Councilmember Kathy Patterson
to drop in.
Mayor Williams' environmental spokesperson, Jim Wareck, will be with us,
as will members of the Mayor's Environmental Council and the Board of
Zoning Adjustment.
Theodore Gordon, Chief Environmental Officer for the District has also
been invited. Sandra Hill, of DPW's Tree and Landscape Division, plans
to attend.
Janet Bearden, a senior manager from the Environmental Protection Agency,
on loan to the District, will also be present. The District's Office of
Planning, Water and Sewer Authority and Department of Consumer & Regulatory
Affairs have been requested to send representatives.
This dialogue will be the kick-off in bringing the environment of the
Palisades to the forefront of the Mayor's Strategic Neighborhood Action
Plan through our PCA Planning Committee, chaired by Doug Omerod.
This is your chance to tell the people who can do something.
ATTEND AND SPEAK OUT!!
--Nick Kauffman, PCA Vice President for the Environment
