PCF finances projects benefiting the Palisades community that promote charitable activities, cultural enrichment, community education and service, economic improvements and environmental enhancements. Grants by the Fund have supported a variety of local projects for schools, the Palisades Branch library, beautification of MacArthur Boulevard, landscaping the Rec Center, building lockers for the local fire station and constructing a community information kiosk. NEXT PROPOSAL
DEADLINE: MOST RECENT GRANTS: The Board of the PCF met in November to review proposals received for the Fall grant cycle, and was pleased to provide funds for the following grants: Friends
of Palisades Library was awarded their request of $800 for an outdoor
bench. The library is a vibrant community institution, and with the donation
of trees from Sibley Hospital, a new bench will be a great addition to
the library's landscaping. Key
Elementary School PTA was awarded their request of $2,250 to fund
the purchase of padded safety materials for the Key School playground.
It was noted that Key School is a catalyzing community center in the Palisades
for many young families, and the playground is used by hundreds of community
children, both students of the school and not, and that their safety is
of utmost importance. Palisades
Farmer's Market was awarded their request of $440 to cover the cost
of new traffic cones, 'No Parking' signs, and domain fees for the Farmer's
Market website, with the stipulation that the PCF will not fund the replacement
of traffic cones in the future. It was noted that the Farmer's Market
has been a wonderful gathering point for the community and deserves our
support. However, as the market becomes more established, the farmers
themselves should be encouraged to contribute to the costs of maintaining
the market, i.e. permitting fees and administrative costs. PCF builds its endowment fund through contributions and bequests. PCF can become a powerful catalyst for local improvements to our community. PCF approves grant requests twice a year -- in April and October. Special grant meetings may be held by the committee if deemed necessary. The PCF makes its recommendations to the Board of the Palisades Citizens Association, which presents them to the association's general membership for a vote. Want a worthwhile neighborhood project for your group, class or troop? Applications need not be complex, but they must include a budget - including named individuals who will be responsible for installation and maintenance, and a budget for maintenance (if applicable). Applications must spell out in detail how the project or program will specifically aid Palisades residents. For example, a service proposal should stipulate the number of Palisades residents who participate or are served. All proposals should clearly describe their novel contribution to the community, explaining the specific need the project meets. All applications must include name and phone/email of someone who can answer questions about the proposal. All contributions to PCF are fully tax-deductible. PCF obtains its non-profit status via its affiliation with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region. The Community Foundation provides PCF with administrative services including accounting and bookkeeping as well as investment services and other advice.
Please consider making a contribution to PCF to make a real difference
in our community that will be enjoyed for many generations to come. Palisades
